Hundreds of people turned out today for a park reopening in Park Slope.The third phase of Washington Park renovations is now complete, and it's officially open to the public. There are handball and basketball courts, a skate park and a new playground. Officials say the renovations were much needed."The park was older, it was tired, it was worn and it certainly needed a lift," Kevin Jeffrey, of the New York City Parks Department, says.Park renovations first began about five years ago in 2007.
