BP Adams hosts 86th birthday celebration for Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was honored Friday in Brooklyn for her 86 birthday.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Ginsburg was sworn in to the country's highest court in 1993. She's the second woman to have been seated on the Supreme Court and is admired by many for her contributions to the country, especially as an advocate for women's rights.
"She's the person that has the practicality, the common sense, the good rule of law to make decisions that's going to affect women and enhance everyone," says Marilyn Campbell, of East New York.
Recently, there has been a push to have the Brooklyn Municipal Building named after Justice Ginsburg.
Many people at Friday's rally called Ginsburg a true trailblazer and say renaming the Municipal Building after her is just another way of making sure her legacy lives forever.
"It’s important for us to celebrate a woman who has sacrificed herself and put herself out there in order to be who she is today," says Farah Louis, candidate for NYC Council in the 45th district.
Over 90,000 people have signed the petition to rename the building after Ginsburg, and it's something they hope will soon become a reality.
