A water main break in Canarsie left behind a massive opening in the road.
It happened on Avenue N near E 105 Street during Monday's stormy weather.
Crews were on scene repairing the pipes and filling up the hole.
Some neighbors thought the opening was initially a sinkhole. And while the city's Department of Environmental Protection confirmed that wasn't the case, some say the idea wasn't far-fetched.
"I know there's a lot of sinkholes after [Superstorm] Sandy," said one neighbor. "I notice it's a sinkhole-prone area."
National Grid said service in the area wasn't impacted.
