Hundreds of people across Brooklyn were without power Monday as utility crews worked to restore electricity following Friday’s winter storm.
According to Con Edison’s outage map, 852 customers across the borough were without power as of Monday. Utility crews worked block by block to identify problems and make repairs.
Con Edison says most of the outages appear to be weather-related. When snow melts and mixes with road salt, that water can seep into underground electrical equipment and cause damage, sometimes forcing crews to shut off power for safety reasons.
For residents, the outages mean dark apartments and, for some, a lack of heat.
Utility crews say they are working as fast as they safely can to restore service. Con Edison's website most recently showed power should be restored for most Brooklynites around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Con Edison encourages customers to check the outage map online for updates as repairs continue.
