Just when Cream and Cocoa Creamery was about to start its busy season, they had to scale back due to the pandemic.
The Nostrand Avenue shop adapted to all the changes thrown at them one scoop at a time.
In the three years that Creme and Cocoa Creamery has been open, the pandemic was a new obstacle that they never envisioned.
"Entrepreneurism is not for the faint of heart,” says Omar Thorpe, of Crème and Cocoa Creamery.
The store had to scale down hours and staff when they noticed a slight decrease in customers. On top of its scoop shop, the Nostrand Avenue business offers ice cream making classes and events, but they were canceled.
"We were booked up every weekend in March and then we just had to shut down,” says Thorpe.
The shop started offering delivery and pints to-go, which have been doing well.
"We're actually even going to expand our product to a national platform distribution so that's actually going to make more business volume,” says Thorpe.
The owners are excited to start offering events again and looking to add more flavors to the menu.
