The West Indian American Day Carnival festivities are officially underway.
The celebration, which honors Caribbean culture, kicked off Thursday night with "Caribbean Woodstock" outside of the Brooklyn museum. The masquerade bands previewed their elaborate outfits in a costume contest.
West Indian bands played live music and authentic Caribbean dishes were served.
