The West Indian American Day Parade has been postponed until September next year due to "uncertainties surrounding COVID-19," organizers say.

WIADCA, the organization that hosts the annual celebration of Caribbean culture, has announced a lineup of in-person and virtual events to celebrate this year, despite not hosting the parade for the second year in a row.

The events this year will be held in partnership with the Brooklyn Museum, with in-person events happening on location.

New York Carnival Week will kick off on Sept. 2 with the Vibes With Voicey concert tour at a venue that has not yet been announced.

"We were flexible with our programming this past year and focused more on helping our community through our WIADCA Cares program," says Michelle Gibbs-Francis, chairperson of the organization. "As we transition through the COVID-19 pandemic, we are seeing a rebirth of NYC and our organizational purposes reflected in our week long events for Carnival 2021."

Last year the celebration was completely virtual due to the pandemic.
