A new art gallery in Rockland County is spreading a message of mindfulness.
The exhibition at the Mindful Boutique and Gallery in West Nyack is called "Growing Pains," and Khilali Marquez is giving the public a peek into her mind through her art.
"That's my whole motto. To be mindful of others. Be mindful of everyone that's around you, what people are going through. Because you just never know," says Marquez.
When the 23-year-old Bronx resident recently opened the "Mindful" gallery in the Palisades Mall, she ultimately opened herself up to others about her own past and how art has helped her.
"I actually was recently diagnosed autistic, it's something I struggled all my life, unknowingly," she says. "Being autistic, it's really hard for me to express myself with words. Even now, I'm having a little trouble expressing myself. So visually, that's how I can explain myself. And I think it comes very clearly."
The gallery and all of her merchandise is located on the third floor of the Palisades Mall.
Marquez will be leading a Halloween-themed paint class in the Palisades Mall at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 30.
