With the growing number of COVID-19 cases around the country, some are now concerned about their pets.

This comes after a dog tested positive for the virus in Hong Kong. The dog had low levels of pathogens in its system.

Dr. Derek Fried says just like people, animals also get sick. "That should be watched as well for any cold or flu-like symptoms," said Fried.

Scientists believe that dogs and cats can't pass on the virus, but can test positive. "It's one of those situations where specialist and infectious disease doctors are also investigating and learning," said Fried.

 

Fried says there is no evidence that transmission occurs between animals and people. However, Fried says those who have tested positive for COVID-19 or have been exposed to the virus should limit contact with family and pets. He says pet owners should not panic.
