A record number of travelers are expected on the road, but also in the skies this weekend for Fourth of July celebrations.

JFK International Airport was already getting crowded early Friday morning on what’s expected to be the busiest day for air travel for Independence Day revelers.

AAA is expecting close to 4.2 million passengers across the nation’s airports over the weekend, up 11% from last year and 6% more than the last record, set in 2019.

All of that comes despite higher flight prices. AAA says Americans are paying 40-50% more for plane tickets compared to 2022.

Flight delays and cancellations have been prominent on some airlines this week, but things remained relatively smooth at JFK and La Guardia Friday morning. Newark Liberty International Airport, though, has had nearly 130 flights canceled since Thursday.

The TSA says they’re full prepared for the surge of passengers this weekend, but travelers should be patient amid the big crowds, and check your flight status often.
