Connecticut's congressional delegation is raising concerns about reports that a new helipad is being built at the White House to accommodate the next generation of Marine One helicopters.

U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy joined U.S. Reps. John Larson, Joe Courtney and Rosa DeLauro in issuing a statement Wednesday about the project.

The lawmakers praised Sikorsky workers and the Stratford-based company's role in manufacturing the presidential helicopter fleet.

"The men and women of Sikorsky produce the world's finest helicopters, and their top-notch craftsmanship and innovation deserve to be celebrated," the delegation said.

The lawmakers noted that concerns about Marine One engine exhaust affecting the White House South Lawn have existed for years and said upgrades are needed to support the next generation of aircraft.

However, they criticized the White House for what they described as a lack of transparency surrounding the project.

"Once again, President Trump is rushing to complete yet another White House project without providing the American people with the transparency they deserve," the delegation said.

The lawmakers also raised concerns about potential costs and the impact on workers involved with the project.
