A blog created by a Brooklyn resident of Puerto Rican descent is providing an outlet for Latinos to share their stories and connect to their culture amid Hispanic Heritage Month.
Since its launch 20 years ago, Sofrito For Your Soul has, in the words of founder George Torres, evolved into something much more than just an online blog.
It now provides marketing services to companies reaching out to Latinos, and the company even opened an arts school in the Lower East Side.
"Just sharing my story - the whole aspect of the technology. It was like a start-up before start-up was a popular word," Torres says.
Torres says a new project is being launched, called Latino Movie Night, that will recognize some of the independent film festivals telling Latino stories in the media.
