An 87-year-old cancer patient mistakenly declared dead by the city is getting her benefits reinstated.
Selma Cohen says she received a letter from the city last week saying she was dead and would stop receiving money from Medicaid and Medicare. As a cancer patient, Cohen depends on those payments for her numerous doctor visits.
Cohen says she's been trying to sort out the mistake and prove to the city that she's still alive, but she hasn't gotten any answers.
Sen. Kristen Gillibrand responded to the report, saying, "We're grateful to the news team for highlighting this case so we can make sure Ms. Cohen receives the services she needs."
