A tragic discovery in the East River is now under investigation after a woman’s body was found floating near the Brooklyn Bridge.
Police say it happened just after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Emergency crews from the NYPD Harbor Unit and FDNY Marine Unit responded to a call about a person in the water near Pier 17. That’s right across the river from Brooklyn Bridge Park.
When marine crews arrived, they found the woman—believed to be in her 30s—floating in the water under the bridge. She was pulled out, but paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators are still working to identify the woman and figure out how she ended up in the river. The medical examiner will determine her exact cause of death.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
