Police say a woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a shooting in Coney Island Monday.
It happened on West 33rd Street near Neptune Avenue shortly after 11:30 a.m. Sources tell News 12 that two men got into an argument when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fire.
Police say the suspect shot two construction workers, a man and woman, who were not the intended targets.
They say the 53-year-old woman, identified as Dorothy Dixon, was shot in the chest. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The man, age 47, was hospitalized and is in stable condition.
Earlier, police had said it was a drive-by shooting, but News 12 is now told by investigators that was not the case, and that the suspect got out of the vehicle.
Police have not provided any further description of the gunman or of the person with whom he was arguing.
Officials recently celebrated a murder-free 2018 in Coney Island, but according to crime statistics, this marks the second homicide here in just over a month.
