Women from U.S. territory islands inform Bronx residents about food sustainability
The women journeyed to the Black Joy Farm in Longwood to share their experiences about food dependency and their efforts to grow food that enriches lives.

A group of women from U.S. territory islands, including Puerto Rico and Guam, visited the Bronx on Wednesday to discuss food sustainability and sovereignty.
Tanya Denise Fields is the founder and executive director of the Black Feminist Project in the Bronx. She joined female leaders to experience the Black Joy Farm in Longwood and share experiences about food dependency and their efforts to grow food that enriches lives.
"We may look different, some of us may speak different languages but it was really important that we sort of grounded ourselves in this shared experience of accessing the land in a way that is healthy,” said Fields. "To learn more about the work that they're doing around farming, urban agriculture and holistic health."
The meeting followed a panel on farming, urban agriculture and holistic health that took place in Manhattan Tuesday to address dependency on food imports in the midst of climate change.
