A young boy is recovering Sunday after being shot in the knee.
The 11-year-old boy was enjoying himself Saturday night at Woods Playground in Crown Heights accompanied by family.
Police say about 10:30 p.m. the victim was shot by what some witnesses say was another young man. Residents say there was a function going on about the same time at P.S. 335, which sits on Rochester Avenue in front of the playground.
Police do not know if any of the students at the function were involved in the shooting.
Thomas Cuccurullo, who owns a business across the street from the playground, says an employee of his saw the shooting.
?When he got out of the truck he [saw] the kid walk behind the truck, and usually you watch to see if someone's [going to] steal something, but he didn't,? Cuccurullo says. ?He pulled a gun out and was ready to cock it. When the driver seen that he called 911 a couple times.
?By the time that happened, the kid ran across the street and shot.?
The victim was taken to Kings County Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police are not releasing his name, or his current condition.
