A Bridgeport center that provides counseling to victims of sexual assault says it is seeing a spike in calls for help following the #MeToo movement and accusations against a number of well-known people.
The Center for Family Justice in Bridgeport says this has been an exceptionally busy year. The organization says the latest accusations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh may further fuel the number of help calls the organization receives.
"I'm gonna say that we are going to see another 20-25 percent spike and you know what? That is OK," says Debra Greenwood, president of the Center for Family Justice. "We welcome it, we know that people are seeking the support that they should be getting.
Greenwood says while it's good to see people reaching out for help, some victims find the headlines stressful and may re-experience symptoms of trauma.
