Brownsville tenants sue after landlord kicks them out
More than a dozen tenants were forced to get a court order today allowing them back into their apartments after the landlord forced them out.
The tenants at 166 Junius St. say their landlord came in and trashed their apartments, broke windows and toilets yesterday, forcing many to leave their apartments.
The tenants got a court order forcing the landlord from destroying the apartments, but the landlord instead chained the doors.
Residents say that for now they've regained access to their apartments, but will continue legal action against the landlord.
Tenants say that they believe the landlord is trying to scare them out of the rent-stabilized apartments to convert the building into a family shelter.
