Some say the Metropolitan Transportation Authority isn’t doing enough to keep commuters safe.
However, the MTA says it is urging those who don’t need to use public transportation to stay home and it has given out safety gear like masks and gloves to its employees.
MTA Interim President Sarah Feinberg says their employees' health is very important and is a top priority.

“The overcrowding is pretty sporadic. It's not happening everywhere,” said Feinberg.
She says changes have to be made when thousands of MTA employees are out sick because of the coronavirus.
"We have so many crews that are out right now Because they are either sick themselves or they are on Quarantine Because of that we have significant crew shortages so we can't run as many trains as we would like,” said Feinberg.
Transit officials say they have distributed 240,000 face masks, 3.2 million gloves and 45,000 bottles of hand sanitizer.
The MTA also instituted rear door boarding on buses, eliminating most in-person transactions and is helping spread the message to people to simply stay home.
