A block party with a twist hit the streets of East New York Sunday.
Bounce castles, games for kids, music and food drew residents out onto Jerome Street for some fun in the sun.
The block party also raised awareness about gun violence, with a local charity building a memorial park and wall for shooting victims, led by a woman who lost her two sons to gun violence.
"I decided to take my grievance and do something with the pain," said Our Lady of Charity for the Community founder, Angel Hendy. "...We all can sit here and talk and get together and talk about our loved ones."
The group is hoping to break ground on the memorial park in a few weeks. Members of the charity group say they also want to add similar places of solidarity to other neighborhoods touched by gun violence.
