A young boy is dead after his mother crashed into a string of parked cars Wednesday.
It happened at Seaview Avenue and East 80th Street.
The young boy, who has been identified as 6-year-old Jerry Louisamard, lived just a few blocks away from the scene of the crash.
Emergency crews were called to the intersection of East 80th Street and Seaview Avenue around 4 p.m. Investigators say his 44-year-old mother was driving southbound on Seaview Avenue when she crashed into a parked car, which went on to hit another parked car.
When they arrived, first responders found her son in the backseat with severe trauma to his chest.
Sources tell News 12 he was not in a booster seat, and it's not clear at this point if he had a seat belt on.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No one else was hurt.
Police are looking into the possibility that car issues may have been what caused the mother to lose control.
The investigation is ongoing.
