The man fatally shot in Plainview earlier this week may have been the victim of a possible road rage incident, Nassau police announced Thursday.
Detective Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick says police are searching for a white, four-door sedan that had an interaction with Justin Gottlieb on the road somewhere between Jericho and Plainview.
Fitzpatrick says Gottlieb, 27, left his job at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and arrived at his home on Margaret Drive East around 5:30 p.m. He says he was shot multiple times while exiting his red Ford Explorer.

The shooting left shards of glass scattered on the street and Gottlieb fatally wounded. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Fitzpatrick is calling on the public to provide information about any interaction Gottlieb may have had with the white sedan. He says it’s possible that an altercation on the road led to the sedan following him home and opening fire. He says there was no indication that the shooter and Gottlieb knew each other prior to the incident.
“Somebody had to see something. It's rush hour going home,” said Fitzpatrick.
Police are asking the public to call the homicide squad or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
A GoFundMe page in Gottlieb’s memory has collected more than $69,000 to help his fiancée and daughter.
