Protesters target alleged sales of K2 in Bed-Stuy
Members of the Doe Fund on Thursday protested the alleged sale of K2 by a deli in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
Members of the group claim the Big Boy Deli is selling the synthetic form of marijuana known as K2.
At least 33 people were rushed to the hospital Sunday after overdosing on the drug, according to police. Witnesses reported seeing victims lying on the sidewalk, shaking and leaning against trees and fire hydrants near Broadway and Myrtle Avenue, which is also where the Big Boy Deli is located.
Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams appeared in Bed-Stuy Wednesday to urge residents to take action against growing abuse of K2. Also Wednesday, authorities raided five bodegas, including Big Boy Deli. It was busted for untaxed cigarettes and forged tax stamps, but no traces of K2 were recovered then.
Police say selling K2 is a misdemeanor offense in New York City, but some stores still continue to sell it.
