One of the two officers injured in a shootout early Saturday morning was released from the hospital.
Police say Officer Andrew Yurkiw is now recovering at home.
Investigators have been looking into the possibility that one of the officers was hit by friendly fire, but authorities have now confirmed that at least of one the officers was shot by the suspect.
Yurkiw, a three-year veteran of the force, was struck in his protective vest, which stopped the bullet from going into his chest.
Officer William Reddin, a nine-year veteran of the force, was struck once below the protective vest, and a bullet entered his right hip.
Reddin and Yurkiw were responding to reports of gunshots in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:30 a.m. Police say Jamal Funes, 34, fled in a vehicle and the officers followed. After a brief chase, Funes and the officers exchanged fire. Funes was struck multiple times.
Police say Funes is from New Jersey and has an extensive criminal background.
Funes was taken to Brookdale Hospital and remains in critical condition.
