A 14-year-old boy was struck and killed by a vehicle in Red Hook while on his way to school Monday morning.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Hicks and Lorraine streets. Witnesses say Nicolas Soto was on his way to catch the school bus when he was hit by a silver BMW.
Police say Soto was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Residents in the area say drivers often speed through the intersection. They told News 12 that they would like to see a traffic light or speed bump installed to slow down drivers.
Police say the driver stayed at the scene.
