A Stony Point man has been charged with murder in a fatal shooting that happened this past weekend.
Authorities say they received a call from a woman asking for help at 101 Mott Farm Road around 11:30 p.m. Saturday.
"She told the desk officer there'd been a shooting at the house and there was a male bleeding on the floor," says Stony Point Police Chief Ed Finn.
Finn says Jason Colwell, 47, of Garnerville, had gotten into a domestic dispute with his wife earlier in the day.
The wife, whose name has not been released, then went to a house on Mott Farm Road. Colwell followed her there, according to officials.
"The deceased came to the house, from what we know, apparently looking for his wife who had come to the residence earlier in the day to stay with a friend," says Finn.
Detectives are still piecing statements together, but they say it appears Colwell came into the home uninvited and that's when Javier Medina, 21, who lives at the house, killed Caldwell with a shotgun.
Police say Medina, along with three women, all stayed at the scene until police arrived. The shotgun was in the house and recovered by investigators.
There were also four children inside the home at the time of the shooting. All were in a different part of the house and were unharmed.
Medina has been charged with second-degree murder and remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail.
Town Supervisor Michael Specht says Colwell was a Ramapo Highway Department employee.
