1st baby born in Brooklyn in 2026 leads to full-circle moment
Not only was Noah the first baby for the borough, it was also a full-circle moment for the family. Nurse midwife Phyllis Lynn also delivered Chelsea back in 1993.

As the rest of the city was ringing in the new year, one Flatbush couple was making history.
Chelsea Modeste Lewis was busy making history giving birth to Noah Joseph Lewis, Brooklyn’s very first baby of 2026. Noah was born at 2:22 am on Jan. 1 at Maimonides Medical Center at 7 pounds, 5 ounces. The parents described the moment to News 12.
“Just relief, to tell you the truth," Noah's mom Chelsea said. "Being in labor for so long, you’re mentally drained.”
“She thought she couldn’t do it, but I believe in her," father Devin Lewis said. "She’s a superhero "
Not only was Noah the first baby for the borough, it was also a full-circle moment for the family. Nurse midwife Phyllis Lynn also delivered Chelsea back in 1993.
“I’ve taken care of all her family," Lynn said. "It's just beautiful that I could stay in Brooklyn all these years so that I could do continuative care.”
Lynn, 83, also delivered Noah’s big sister Jamie back on Jan. 11, 2024. When asked about how she's done this job all this time, Lynn said, "If you love something, do it for life."
And for life, Noah will have the title as first baby born in Brooklyn in 2026.
"Baby Noah is a star," father Devin said. "And we’re happy to share this moment with everybody.”
