A massive four-alarm fire tore through a three-story home in Concourse Village Sunday night, forcing nearly 20 people out into the cold and leaving them without a place to stay.

FDNY officials say the fire broke out around 7 p.m. on East 163rd Street near Morris Avenue. Flames quickly spread through the building, partially collapsing the rear of the structure and destroying multiple apartments.

Firefighters say 19 residents were able to escape without injuries. Two firefighters were hurt while battling the blaze, with minor injuries. FDNY says both are expected to recover.

Residents say they were inside making dinner when the fire erupted, forcing families to flee with little more than the clothes on their backs.

One tenant named Tiffany says she was unable to get back inside to rescue her two cats.

"I'm blessed to make it out," she said. "But my animals are still trapped inside - two of them."

Firefighters were later seen searching through the rubble for trapped pets but say they have not found any animals at the time.

The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents with emergency housing and basic needs.
