Two Brooklyn men were sentenced Friday for their roles in the murder of a 1-year-old boy in Brownsville two years ago.
Daquan Breland and Daquan Wright were convicted in the death of Antiq Hennis, the baby that was shot in the head as he sat in a stroller being pushed in a stroller by his father. The two men later fled the state, but were apprehended, according to authorities.
A judge on Friday sentenced 25-year-old Daquan Breland to 25 years to life in prison. Breland will also be serving 15 years on a gun conviction. The sentences will be served concurrently. Breland was convicted of second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon back in 2013.
Breland's accomplice, 21-year-old Daquan Wright, also received the maximum penalty. Wright will serve 15 years behind bars for supplying the gun that claimed Hennis' life back in Sept. 2013.
Investigators say they believe the boy's father, Anthony, was the intended target.
Cherisse Miller, Hennis' mother, could not bear to be in the courtroom as her son's murderers learned their fate. However, other family members were present.
Wright had a stoic expression during the proceedings in the courtroom. When the judge asked him if he had anything to say, he said he plans to appeal the charges against him.
