City Council discusses legislation around fair and affordable housing development

The City Council discussed two pieces of legislation surrounding the current state of fair and affordable housing in New York City in a hearing on Tuesday.
The first piece of legislation, Introduction 1031, would require the Housing Preservation and Development agency and the Department of City Planning to submit a fair housing plan once every five years that would outline housing production goals for each community district.
The second, Introduction 362, will require HPD to submit quarterly reports on the progress of housing development projects.
“We cannot continue with the status quo… especially when we build in underserved neighborhoods,” said Councilmember Rafael Salamanca, who sits on the council’s Committee on Land Use.
