Members of the community are continuing the cleanup of Our Lady of Pompeii Church two days after a five-alarm fire destroyed the place of worship for many in East Williamsburg.

The church is now boarded up completely. News 12 cameras got a look inside, discovering debris covering the floors, workers in hazmat suits removing what’s left and the smell of smoke still present in the church.

Father Vincenzo Cardilicchia says that he is working with residents and parishioners to turn this tragedy into a blessing, and that the statues and symbols that remained untouched are a symbol of something special.

The plan for worshippers is currently to hold mass on Sunday at All Saints Church at 10:30 a.m. in English and 1 p.m. in Spanish.
