Bushwick customers still without power after manhole fire
The FDNY says they got the call around 6:57 p.m. for smoke coming from a manhole in front of 18 Irving Avenue.

Con Edison crews were still out Friday evening at Irving Avenue and Jefferson Street in Bushwick, working to fully restore power after a manhole fire sent thick black smoke into the air Thursday night.
The FDNY says it got the call just before 7 p.m. Thursday for smoke coming from a manhole in front of 18 Irving Ave. One engine and one ladder truck responded, and Con Edison was called in right away.
Video shows people driving along when fire shoots out of the manhole and explodes into the air.
According to Con Edison, about 240 customers lost power at the height of the outage. By Friday morning, most buildings had electricity back—but 18 Irving Ave. is still in the dark as of Friday evening. News 12 spotted Con Edison emergency trucks still on scene.
Resident Harris Smith is still without power and says they heard the explosion.
“The lights started flickering then there was a very loud pop outside and everything just went dark. When we went to check it out, there was smoke billowing out of the manhole," said Smith.
Con Edison says it will be out there until power is fully restored.
