Fire officials say a fire broke out in a Chinese restaurant in East New York.

The owner says the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. and says he and his staff heard a loud boom, followed by flames coming from outside his restaurant before fleeing.

He tells us that luckily, no customers were inside, and his staff was able to get out with no injuries. He believes the cause was a burnt-out battery inside a bike that was on the scene.

"We were eating lunch, and it was like a big boom, you could not see smoke everywhere, fire everywhere," said business owner Sunguozeug.

Fire officials say the fire reached a 2nd alarm level, with smoke spreading to the units on the two floors above the business.
