The latest numbers for 2025 from the state show that violent and serious crimes are on the decline in Connecticut.

The recently released Crime in Connecticut report found that murders. assaults, rapes, car thefts and larcenies experienced a double digit decline from 2024 to 2025. Motor vehicle thefts, burglary, robbery and vandalism also saw double-digit declines.

"The facts are pretty clear: we're seeing all of these serious crimes decline," DESPP spokesperson Rick Green says. "It doesn't mean there aren't still problems"

Officials say that overall crime against property is down by 17% and crimes against persons is at its lowest point since early 2021.

Data in the report additionally shows that for the fourth quarter in 2025, the number of murders dropped from 90 in 2024 to 70 in 2025, which officials say follows a nationwide trend. Officials say that 2025 is expected to have the lowest nationwide homicide rate in more than 100 years.

Despite the decrease in these crimes, officials say certain types of incidents remain on the rise.

"We saw an uptick in arson, and a small uptick in prostitution. Fraud and embezzlement have been a big problem," Green says. "These are issues we're still going after. We're still trying to work more closely with local law enforcement to make a dent."
