Teen dead, another critically injured in Williamsburg Bridge subway surfing incident

Police responded to a 911 call at 5:58 p.m. near Lewis Street and Delancey Street on the Lower East Side where they found the 14‑year‑old unconscious and unresponsive with injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position.

A 14‑year‑old boy was killed, and an 18‑year‑old man was critically injured Friday evening in a subway surfing incident on the Williamsburg Bridge.

Police responded to a 911 call at 5:58 p.m. near Lewis and Delancey streets on the Lower East Side where they found the 14‑year‑old unconscious and unresponsive.

They say the injuries were consistent with a fall from an elevated position. The 18‑year‑old was discovered unconscious on the roadbed nearby.

Both were transported to a local hospital where the 14‑year‑old was pronounced dead. The 18‑year‑old remains in critical condition.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
