NJ governor celebrates quicker access to Real ID
Gov. Sherrill took a moment to tout the work of her new MVC commissioner - Wait times for Real ID appointments have dropped from 70 to 40 days and 100, 000 people signed up for Real ID in May.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill is touting some new ease of access for people trying to get a Real ID. The governor says wait times for appointments have dropped on average from 73 days to 40 days.
The governor was in Trenton Thursday talking about the progress that’s been made since installing a new MVC commissioner.
In the last four months, 300,000 Real ID’s have been processed. The governor added that four more MVC offices now have the ability to process Real ID’s and drivers are now able to go to the MVC counter without paper to prove who you are and where you live.
“Letting people provide proof of address electronically. Because so many of don’t get those paper envelopes anymore. It’s all being done online and we had nothing to show at the MVC when we wanted to prove our ID," said Gov. Sherrill.
Four months ago, Rosalie Johnson started working as New Jersey's new MVC commissioner.
"None of those changes would've been possible without all of the employees buy in," said Commissioner Johnson.
Real ID is needed at airports in order to get through TSA checkpoints.
Travelers who don't have a Real ID or passport are facing $45 fines in order to get through security to a gate.
So far in New Jersey, the MVC reports, 2.5 million people have their Real ID.
