World Cup excitement is spilling beyond the stadiums and into one of New Jersey’s most beloved staples — the local deli.

At Park Wood Deli in Midland Park, owner Roger Schnorrbusch, better known as “The Deli Guy,” says he’s seen a steady flow of international visitors since the tournament began.

Fans from countries including Norway and England are stopping in to try classic Jersey favorites for the first time — from meatball parmesan sandwiches to chicken cutlets stacked high.

"I had somebody from London that never had a meatball parmesan before, so that was pretty cool," Schnorrbusch said. "Never had it before. Told him my mom makes it. We usually recommend the chicken culets, stuff that is from Jersey. New Jersey popularity samples."

Schnorrbusch says social media may be helping spread the word, with many visitors walking in asking for recommendations on what to try.

For many customers, it’s not just the flavors that stand out — it’s the size and experience of a true New Jersey deli sandwich.

With matches continuing across the region, the deli expects even more first-time visitors in the days ahead.
