This extreme heat wave will lead to higher energy use and possibly power outages across New Jersey.

The electric bill this week could soar as you use the air conditioning even more.

Utility companies are offering some recommendations to conserve energy.

Keep your blinds closed, use ceiling fans counterclockwise to circulate the air, run appliances early in the morning or late evening and when you are not home raise your thermostat.

PSE&G says the amount of electricity needed to cool your house to 75 degrees when it’s 95 outside is 300% higher than when it’s 85 outside.

Eversource says customers use about 35% more electricity to keep cool when it gets really hot during the summer.
