Brooklyn man facing hate crime charges after assaulting a child in a Manhattan playgorund

The attack happened inside the playground at 6 p.m. back on April 29th.

A 37-year-old Brooklyn man has been arrested for a hate crime and assault of a 12-year-old boy inside Baruch Playground.

The attack happened inside the playground at 6 p.m. on April 29.

Police say the man approached the 12-year-old boy and engaged in an argument with the boy. The man made anti LGBTQIA+ remarks towards the boy before striking him with a belt.

The 12-year-old suffered minor injuries and is expected to be OK.

Kevin Maxell, 37, is now facing a slew of charges including hate crime, assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child and menacing.
