A 24-year-old man is facing several charges after police say he drove the wrong way down a Carroll Gardens street, hit another car and sent it crashing through the front of a neighborhood deli.

The crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. Sunday near Henry and Union streets.

Surveillance video shows a white Mercedes-Benz traveling the wrong way down Henry Street with a passenger inside. The car nearly hit a person crossing the street before slamming into a black Audi traveling through the intersection.

The impact sent the Audi crashing through the front windows of the deli at 532 Henry St., shattering glass and leaving the storefront badly damaged.

Deli owner Khalid Sarsour said he and an employee rushed toward the back of the store as the crash unfolded.

“All the sudden we just heard, like, squeak brakes and I see a car just jump in the air and hit in my front windows and all the glass shattered and everything — we got traumatized,” Sarsour said.

The 37-year-old man driving the Audi and a woman riding in the Mercedes were taken to Methodist Hospital. Details about their conditions were not immediately available.

The deli was boarded up after the crash. Sarsour said repairs could take several days, but he plans to reopen and get back to business.

Police identified the Mercedes driver as Juan Tenorio Ramos. He was taken into custody at the scene.

Tenorio Ramos is facing several charges, including reckless driving, reckless endangerment, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failing to yield to a person in a crosswalk. He also faces drug-related charges.
