The City of Hoboken announced Wednesday that 60 new temporary parking spaces will become available uptown starting the week of Sept. 14, serving as a stopgap measure while plans move forward for the municipality's first uptown parking garage.

The temporary lot, constructed in partnership with the Rockefeller Group, is located on 15th Street between Willow Avenue and Park Avenue. It will remain open until construction begins on a permanent 275-space municipal garage on an adjacent block just south of 15th Street.

Drivers will be able to pay for parking on an hourly or monthly basis based on availability. City officials said details regarding monthly rates and application procedures will be posted to the municipal website prior to opening.

The project is part of the broader North End Redevelopment Plan, which aims to revitalize northwest Hoboken across two and a half city blocks. The full plan includes 729 planned residential units, 73 designated affordable housing units, over 38,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and more than 48,000 square feet of public open space connecting to Harborside Park and the waterfront.

Infrastructure work in the surrounding area is already under way, with the city and the North Hudson Sewerage Authority recently completing the repaving and resurfacing of 31 blocks. Upgrades include 15th Street reconstruction to improve stormwater resiliency and five continuous blocks of the "Green Circuit" multi-use trail.
