A 27-year-old man is dead after being ejected from his car during a crash on the Belt Parkway overnight.
According to police, the man was traveling eastbound at a high speed when he lost control and slammed his Infinity M-35X into a guardrail just west of exit 13 at around 2 a.m. He was alone at the time.
Authorities say the vehicle flew across three lanes of traffic on the other side of the road before going over another guardrail and landing in a marshy area below the elevated parkway.
The parkway was temporarily shut down for two miles in both directions between exits 11 and 13, causing extensive delays around the area.
The accident remains under investigation, and the victim's identity has not yet been released.
