The three New York City police officers accused of sodomizing a Brooklyn man during an arrest surrendered Tuesday morning, authorities say.
Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes announced a 32-count indictment against officers Richard Kern, Alex Cruz and Andrew Morales.
The officers are facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting 24-year-old Michael Mineo with a retractable baton in mid-October inside the Prospect Park subway station.
Kern is facing the most serious charges, which include first-degree aggravated sexual assault. Cruz and Morales are also facing multiple felony charges, including hindering the prosecution and official misconduct.
Investigators say the three officers thought they saw Mineo smoking marijuana and ran after him into the station. At that point, investigators say Cruz and Morales held Mineo down while Kern inserted a baton into his rectum. The officers? attorneys, however, insist their clients are innocent of any wrongdoing.
