Suspected killer in Claremont shooting calls News 12 newsroom

A man identifying himself as 42-year-old Jimmy Avila called the News 12 newsroom, saying that he shot two people and barricaded himself at his apartment.
One person is dead and two people are injured after a shooting in Claremont, police confirm. Police have not identified the shooter.
While a News 12 staff member was on the phone with him, other staff members were alerting police to the phone call and the reported shooting.
The incident began as a dispute between two neighbors over who was going to use the backyard at an apartment building on College Avenue, according to police sources. A 37-year-old man was shot in the chest and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital.
A 62-year-old man was shot in the arm. Another man, a 59-year-old who is believed to be homeless by sources, was shot in the backside. Both were also taken to the hospital and are stable.
Neighbors who spoke with News 12 say they heard at least five gunshots inside and outside their building.
Police sources say that they have a person of interest in custody.
