A 3-year-old girl died after a car accident on Bruckner Boulevard Saturday morning.
Investigators say at around 10 a.m. the driver of a Chevy Malibu slowed down to avoid going over a raised manhole on the road that the city's Department of Transportation is in the process of repaving.
When the driver of the Chevy Malibu slowed down, the driver of a Mack garbage truck barreled into the back of the car and ultimately over it.
Police say there were four family members in the totaled car. The only one who did not survive was the 3-year-old girl - who has been identified as Sophia Aguirre, of Williamsburg.
The city's Department of Transportation told News 12 they milled, or ripped out existing roadway, about eight days ago, which is a normal step in the process.
Police say the 3-year-old was seated properly in a child car seat in the back.
The driver of the garbage truck remained at the scene. No arrests have been made.
