Brooklyn activists gathered in Gowanus Saturday against gun violence and to honor the memory of late rapper Casillas Ramos.
Ramos, a Brooklyn native who went by Nu Money, was just 20 years old when he was shot in the head and killed during a trip to Miami in 2013.
His mother Yvette Ramos organized the event “A Mother’s Screamz” in an effort to teach the community that violence is never the answer.
Brooklyn residents gathered on the very street co-named in his honor to celebrate what would have been his 30th birthday with food and music.
Yvette Ramos said the anti-violence organizations like Man Up Inc were in attendance, gifting children in the area with things like school supplies and gift cards. She hopes this will help them toward a safer future.
Speakers at the event also reminded people that Remembrance Day for Homicide Victims is held on Sept. 25.
