The American Automobile Association estimates 20 million drivers will be on the road this Christmas.
According to AAA, drivers will find the most expensive year end gas prices since 2014.
New York City's average gas price is $2.74 a gallon, which is 20 cents more than it was in 2016.
Most travelers will be heading out between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. AAA says
traffic is expected to be at its heaviest during this time.
They say a record numbers of New Yonkers will be traveling this year.
The association recommends never warming up a vehicle in an enclosed area, such as a garage.
They say to make certain your tires are properly inflated and to keep your gas tank at least half full to avoid gas line freeze-ups.
Also, AAA recommends not using your car’s cruise control when driving on any slippery surface.
