Residents were forced to brave the cold temperatures on Monday as they made their way into the Hunts Point HRA office, after the ACCESS HRA mobile application stopped working over the weekend.
"The app is terrible. It doesn't work at all," said Angel Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said he noticed the issue on Friday after he was kicked out of his mobile account. The father of three said he uses the application to check the balance of his SNAP benefits.
"It kind of makes me cry because I have my kids and it's just terrible," he said.
Over 90% of New Yorkers apply for benefits online and use the application to manage SNAP, cash assistance and track any pending cases.
"To have to travel in the cold right now is very inconvenient. It's freezing out here. So now I have to come in here and sit in here for about an hour or two, maybe three...I have other things to do today," said another frustrated resident.
In a statement, DSS told News 12 in part, "While this process was expected to impact access to digital services overnight, a technical issue delayed completion of the upgrade, leaving many services, including AccessHRA, degraded or unavailable for clients and staff into Monday."
