Activists say a 7-year-old’s death in Bensonhurst could have been prevented.
Sama Ali was killed on Monday as she was riding her scooter on Bay 23rd Street and Bath Avenue. She was hit by an armored truck at the intersection.
Activists say too many pedestrians are killed on unsafe city streets every year.
Vision Zero’s maps show at least one other injury at the intersection and two more just a block over on Bath Avenue and Bay 24th--the latest information updated last month.
Activists say they’ve asked the city to look at the streets in this neighborhood for a while.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Transportation for a comment regarding safety improvements it is considering and has not heard back yet.
